Human Synth
Kevin Chan-A-Shing
This album is a testament to the raw, messy, and undeniable force of our shared human experiences. Titled HUMAN\SYNTH, this collection of eight songs is a declaration that our stories are the true blueprint for creativity. As the songwriter, every word and melody is infused with a journey that began with the vibrant rhythms of Trinidadian dancehall and evolved through the infectious energy of UK garage. This project boldly fuses the soulful power of classic R&B and '90s hip-hop with today's modern sonic palette, including influences from artists like Janet Jackson, Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, and Post Malone.
The music itself is a curated conversation between carbon and silicon. While the elegant foundation of the piano grounds all my songwriting, the production dives into a kaleidoscope of virtual instrumentation. At the center is a "voice" that is sometimes me raw and unfiltered, and other times deliberately transformed by auto-tune and voice AI creations I titled Orion (male) and Nocturne Aura (female). This choice pushed me far beyond the conventional limits of writing music for my own singing voice and exploded endless creative possibilities for this project. The album's DNA is a musical journey where seemingly different worlds fuse into a single, cohesive sound. It is an honest reflection of my life's soundtrack, a fusion that makes the music uniquely me.
Created without a formal studio, this album proves that the most powerful instruments we have are our own stories.
